A smaller side project

The Bitcoin price, always on your desktop

LilMoon is a small always-visible widget for macOS. It shows the live Bitcoin price, the latest block, and what the mempool is charging right now. Nothing else.

What it shows

Live price and 24h change

The Bitcoin price in your currency, with the 24 hour move in green or red. Prices come from Binance, and you can point it at binance.com or binance.us.

Latest block height

The tip of the chain, straight from mempool.space. A quiet way to know the network is still ticking along without opening a block explorer.

Mempool fees

Fastest and economy rates in sat/vB, so you can see at a glance whether now is an expensive moment to move coins or a cheap one.

13 currencies

Dollar and euro, plus lira, real, peso, yen, koruna, złoty, leu, hryvnia and rand. Price it in the money you actually spend.

Make it yours

Text and background colours, font, size, spacing and which rows appear are all adjustable, so the widget can shout or disappear into the wallpaper.

Stays out of the way

🖥️ Lives on the desktop

Drag it anywhere. It remembers where you put it, and there is no dock icon cluttering things up.

📌 Always on top, optional

Float it above every window when you are watching a move, or let it sit behind them the rest of the time.

🍫 Menu bar controls

Everything is reachable from a menu bar item, including a toggle to launch LilMoon when your Mac starts.

🔒 No account, no tracking

It reads two public APIs and stores your preferences on your Mac. There is nothing to sign in to and nothing to leak.

LilMoon or Moonitor?

They are different tools and it is worth being clear about which one you want.

LilMoon is a glance. It tracks Bitcoin only, holds no portfolio, and answers one question: what is the price right now. It is a widget you leave on your desktop and mostly ignore.

Moonitor is a portfolio tracker. It follows 14 exchanges, records what you hold and what you paid, and works out your profit and loss. It is an app you open when you want to know how you are doing, not a thing that sits on the wallpaper.

Both are made by the same person, both keep your data on your own machine, and neither asks for an exchange API key.

Supported currencies: US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Turkish Lira, Brazilian Real, Argentine Peso, Colombian Peso, Mexican Peso, Czech Koruna, Polish Złoty, Romanian Leu, Ukrainian Hryvnia, South African Rand.
